Written Premium
For insurance companies, the total policy premiums contracted during a period — including new business, renewals, and endorsements — before any reinsurance cessions. The insurance equivalent of ARR bookings.
What it shows
Written premium shows the total insurance commitment made in a period and leads earned premium (recognised ratably as the policy period passes). It is the forward-looking revenue indicator in insurance RevOps — the bookings metric that predicts future earned revenue.
Formula
Written Premium = Sum of All Policy Premiums Incepted During the Period. Distinct from Earned Premium (recognised over the policy term) and Unearned Premium Reserve.
